10th Anniversary of Archifest
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Archifest, an
annual festival of ideas and celebration of local architecture, public
spaces and city organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects
(SIA). To celebrate this milestone year, SIA is collaborating with the
Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA) to curate a two-weeks
festival that promotes the significance of architecture and landscape
in today’s built environment. Taking place at various venues across
Singapore over the years, the festival is a platform for local and
regional communities of creative individuals, thinkers and enthusiasts
of the built environment to engage each other and the public in
imagining a city of the future through initiating change in the present.
2016 Theme: Exhale
Archifest celebrates the city we love in all its varied forms and
elements. The landmark 10th edition of the festival invites participants
to step back and take stock. This year’s theme, ‘Exhale’, challenges
the rapidity and density of activities that define our pace of life.
When we exhale completely and let our breath rediscover its own rhythm,
we enable ourselves to inhabit the city refreshed. Archifest 2016 seeks
to weigh in on the state of Singapore’s built environment and to breathe
new life into it.
Archifest Pavilion
The Archifest Pavilion is envisioned to be the physical manifestation of the spirit of Archifest this year - Exhale.
It is imagined to be a temporary, outdoor recreational venue which
reinvents our experience of a public space in Singapore, providing a
comfortable, unique and multi-sensorial experience of the city to be
enjoyed by everyone.
The chosen site for this year’s Archifest Pavilion is Raffles Place, a public green/space governed by NParks which is highly accessible to people from all over Singapore.
The Pavilion must be built at a cost of SGD$75,000
(inclusive of design development, appointment of contractor,
construction, procurement and installation costs of all fixtures,
maintenance, dismantling and returfing of the site).
